Pamela Atteberry's Obituary
Pamela Schenke Hadwiger Atteberry, age 79, of Charleston, Illinois, passed away on Monday, March 31, at Willow Breeze Hospice House. Pam was born on September 26, 1945, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Lahron Schenke and Phyllis Langner Schenke. She is survived by her loving husband, Keith, whom she married on August 9, 1997.
Pam loved sharing an excellent meal with friends, whether ordered at a favorite restaurant or prepared in her own kitchen. She found great satisfaction in cooking new recipes. She and Keith once belonged to a gourmet group that met regularly to enjoy one another’s cooking adventures. Pam was known for taking pictures of beautifully plated dishes to share with her "foodie" friends. She also had a taste for travel. Some of her favorite destinations were Europe, Mexico, New Orleans, Louisiana, Naples, Florida, Kohler, Wisconsin, and Bentonville, Arkansas. She often returned from her travels having learned about culture, art, and cuisine, with a distinctive piece of furniture or artwork for her collection. Her home was a showcase for paintings and ceramics.
Pam was known as an excellent seamstress. Early on, she made all her own clothes and enjoyed a wide variety of needlecraft creations while holding a great appreciation for the artwork of others. She was also a devoted cat lover, which was evident by the number of cats living in her home, as well as the kindness she showed to stray cats.
She graduated with both an undergraduate and a master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University, where she later taught at the Lab School, worked as an Admission Counselor, and completed her career at The Honors College.
Pam will be fondly remembered for her bright smile, generous spirit, and loyal friendship.
A Celebration of Life event will be held at a later date.
