Mary M. Shoot, 90, of Ashmore, IL passed to her heavenly home on Friday, March 14, 2025. Mary was born on February 18, 1935 to Robert E. and Leona (Bennett) Runnels. On April 11, 1954 she married W. Max Rennels. He preceded her to Read Obituary
Mary Shoot was seated at the organ when we entered Ashmore Baptist Church for our first service. It was right then that we were introduced to her love for the Lord and her beautiful expression of music. Soon after, we saw her restoration of wood, quilting and needle designs, good food and great hospitality. When Mary and Bob opened their home to us, we insisted sleeping on the floor just on the other side of their bedroom door. We could not stop ourselves from laughing and talking till early in the morning. A Slumber Party! The New Year's Eve plan? A "great dinner out!" But then, no one was ready to go home. So? It was Mary's idea to crash everyone else's parties, providing us with bursts of New Year's laughter and surprises! As Mary hosted us, we were grateful to host her in our West African home where her sense of adventure, love for the Lord, and love for the people was the perfect combination as Nigerians opened their hearts to her ready smile and presence of Jesus Christ. We praise God for her life and pray joy and blessings over you, her family and friends, in the name of Jesus.

My sincere condolences to the families of Mary. Many memories of her sharing her talents in church services. A very friendly warm person with a true honest connection of kindness and caring. Glad I had the pleasure of knowing her.

I think the memory of Mary would be she was always so friendly. And glad to stop and say hi. She would always share anything about the family with me. I think I remember Mary and her family from very early on because they were part of the farm community and then at Lerna school. They all were great neighbors and good friends no matter how far they lived. My love and hugs to all the family.
