Wanda M. Lichtenberger's Obituary
Wanda M. Lichtenberger, aged 95, of Charleston Illinois, passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family on February 25, 2025. She was born to Arthur Spires and Cecil Liffick Spires on June 8, 1929 near Clarksville Illinois. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Lichtenberger, on March 26, 1950 in Grandview Illinois and was happily married to him until his death in 1998.
She is survived by her son, Mark Lichtenberger, of Charleston, daughter Merry Lichtenberger, of Charleston, and grandson Joshua N. Lichtenberger, also of Charleston. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Pat Spires Davidson, and her beloved canine companion Molly.
Wanda graduated from Kansas High School in 1949, where she met her husband, Bob. They were a perfectly matched couple and exemplified everything a marriage should be. Wanda and Bob loved to travel and sightsee; they toured the US on a motorcycle, spent winters in Florida, and camped often the rest of the year closer to home. They enjoyed the company of many friends, sharing interests in travel, playing cards, and antique cars.
She loved her family fiercely and was a loving mother and a devoted wife. She was simply everything her family could have asked for. She spent most of her life taking good care of her home and family. She loved reading, crafting, and baking. Her pie dough was legendary. She made award-winning banana bread, the best gravy, and taught her grandson how to fry chicken the right way. Often described as feisty, she kept her sharp sense of humor up until her final days. Her smile and the twinkle in her eye will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery in Kansas, IL.
Memorial donations may be made to Coles County Animal Shelter, 6818 N. Co. Rd. 1120 E., Charleston, IL 61920.
