W. Maxine McNabb's Obituary
Wilma Maxine McNabb, age 82, of Ashmore, IL (formerly of Neoga and Charleston, IL), went to her heavenly home at 1:10 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024. She was born on August 26, 1941 in Mattoon, IL, the daughter of Howard Clark "Mike" and Wilma Lee (Frost) Smith. She married Roy W. McNabb on March 5, 2023 in Ashmore, IL.
She is survived by her loving husband, Roy of Ashmore, IL; son, Jerry (Vicky) Brookins of Charleston, IL; daughter, Tammy Tammen (Brad) of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Tevin Brookins (Jackie Crabtree) of Charleston, IL, Adalida Tammen of Murfreesboro, TN, Camden Tammen of Gallatin, TN, Tamar Brookins of Mahomet, IL, Layla Tammen of Murfreesboro, TN; great-grandchildren, Finntan Patterson of Mattoon, IL, McKaylynn Brookins of Charleston, IL, Landyn Brookins of Charleston, IL, Alexus Dodge of Charleston, IL, and Conner Crabtree of Charleston, IL; and brother, Raymond Smith (Susan) of Potosi, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Richard Smith and Michael Smith, and sisters, Thelma Smith and Nadine White.
Maxine was a 1959 graduate of Neoga High School. She worked as an assistant at First Mid Ag Services, at the ERC Landfill in Charleston, IL for 20 years, and for Ron Pierce Farm Management in Charleston, IL for 20 years. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, IL, and was actively involved in the Elect Lady Chapter 40 of the Order of the Eastern Star, formerly known as Mattoon Eastern Star Chapter 420. Maxine served as a worthy matron in Oakland, Ashmore, and Mattoon, IL.
In addition to her professional career, Maxine was a passionate Tae Kwon Do instructor for 20 years in Charleston and Oakland, IL. She was a 4th-degree black belt and a member of the American Tae Kwon Do Association (ATA). Maxine enjoyed motorcycling, gardening, flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services with Eastern Star rites will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, IL, with Pastor Jeff Newberry officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Coles County, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
