Twila Y Corn's Obituary
GURNEE, IL - Twila Yvonne Corn, age 97 of Charleston and formerly of Mattoon, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 while at Sunrise Assisted Living in Gurnee. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, February 1, 2016 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in the Toledo Cemetery located south of Toledo, IL. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Gifts may be left during the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Twila was born October 22, 1918 in Cumberland County, IL to the late Jacob L. and Elmyra (Richardson) Barger. She married Harvey Painter in 1942 and later married Paul L. Corn in 1951. Surviving are four sons and their families: Preston M. Corn and wife Kathleen of Gladstone, MO and their children, Kristina (Cris) Hochwender, Adrienne (Darwin Melnyk) Corn, John Michael (Karen) Corn and Scott (Christy) Corn; Michael J. Corn and wife Mary of Grayslake, IL and their children, Michael J. (Kimberly) Corn, Jr. and Melanie (Tanner Johnson) Corn; Stephen Corn and wife Janelle of Florence, MT and their son Nicholas Corn; Robert Corn-Revere and wife Sigrid Fry-Revere of Lovettsville, VA and their children, Nathan, Ian, Jackson and Lauren Revere; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her sister, Mrs. J.P. (Merlene) Crail. Twila attained both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Eastern Illinois University. She devoted many years to students in the Mattoon and Charleston school districts as an elementary school teacher. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Charleston and a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a service organization which inspires leadership and service by pursuing programs and projects that make a positive difference locally, nationally and internationally. Twila also enjoyed sewing and gardening and international travel. Her family remained her priority, and she often visited her sons and family members across the country. She will always be fondly and lovingly remembered by her four sons, eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her extended family and her many friends. They will forever treasure their many remembrances.
