Troy F. Strong's Obituary
Troy F. Strong, age 61, of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon. He was born on November 5, 1962, in Hollywood, Florida, the son of Gerald W. and Nancy R. (Benoit) Strong.
Troy is survived by his loving wife, Claudia (James) Strong; his two daughters, Jehhanni Strong and Shailynn Strong, both of Palm Coast, Florida; his parents, Gerald W. and Nancy R. Strong of Mattoon, Illinois; his sister, Tracy J. Solomon of Mattoon; and two lifelong friends, Chris and Steve Cottet. He is preceded in death by his grandparents James and Helen Strong and Virginia P. Benoit.
Troy was a 1981 graduate of Mattoon High School and later attended BICSI ICT Certification Institute, Electrical Training Alliance (NJATC-ETA). He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Troy retired from Datatec Systems Incorporated where he worked and upheld the role of Project Administrator.
Troy had a deep love for travel. One of his trips led him to Bucaramanga, Colombia, where he met his wife, Claudia James. They lived in Colombia for a time before relocating to Florida, where they resided for 15 years. Troy later moved to Progresso, Mexico, where he spent three years before returning to Mattoon due to illness.
Troy was a follower of the Catholic Church. He had a natural ability to make others feel welcome. He enjoyed spending time on the water, boating near the Marina, jet skiing, and race car driving. His hobbies also included fishing, golfing, snowboarding, and riding motorcycles. Troy enjoyed attending car shows and concerts, trying new restaurants, and exploring the world. Above all, Troy adored his daughters and encouraged them in everything they did. He brought laughter and joy to those around him and will be deeply missed.
Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 320 N. 21st St., Mattoon, IL with Inurnment to follow at Bethel Cemetery.
