Thelma Ernestine Spence was born February 6, 1941 in Douglas County, Illinois, a daughter of the late Ernest and Grace (Ogg) Pollock. She married James M. Spence on November 23, 1960 in Newman, Illinois and was his devoted wife and friend for 43 years. He preceded her in death on January 12, 2004. She is survived by their two sons, Randy Spence and Rob Spence and wife Candi, all of Charleston; two grandchildren, Noah Spence and fiancé Lacey Clifton and Jessica Spence, all of Charleston; a brother, Darrell Pollock and wife Laveda of Sidney, Illinois; a sister, Cheet Winkler and husband Darrell of Fisher, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Kate Pollock of Charleston and Barb Pollock of Tuscola, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. Tina appreciated and loved Jim's family as well and is survived by a brother-in-law, Don Spence and wife Velma; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Lee Foreman, Norma Spence and Sandy Spence; and nieces and nephews including Kathy Spence whose help, visits, and friendship were so appreciated. Tina was also preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Schweneke and Mae Ann Ballard; and two brothers, Bill and Harold Pollock. Tina's employment prior to retirement was with the Charleston Township Office as a Deputy Assessor though most will remember her as the owner and operator of the Red Shed Bait and Tackle. Tina was a member of Salisbury Church, the Newman Chapter of Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society. For many years she was involved in local politics and actively volunteered with the Democratic Party. Tina was an avid reader and was blessed with a creative ability. She liked to keep busy and she was usually involved in a variety of crafting projects. She enjoyed several close friendships and enjoyed shopping trips (especially for shoes) and going out to eat. She and Jim also liked to travel - but not too far. They were grateful for their many weekend get-a-ways. Nothing was more precious to Tina than her family. Randy, Rob, Candi, Noah and Jessica knew that her door was always open, and upon entering, would be greeted with an abundance of love. They have been gifted with many remembrances of memorable times shared and will always appreciate this special woman they were blessed to call mom, grandma and friend.
