Theodore R. Steiskal's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Theodore R. Steiskal, age 92 of Charleston and formerly of Downers Grove, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at his home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 921 Madison Avenue in Charleston, Illinois with Father John Titus presiding. Burial, with Military Rites conducted by the Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592, will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until Service time at the church. Memorials in his honor may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the Visitation or Funeral Mass or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.Ted was born January 9, 1919 in Chicago, a son of the late Otto and Rose (Frolik) Steiskal. He married Anna Simon on June 29, 1946 in Chicago and they have shared sixty-four wonderful years of friendship and marriage. In addition to Anna, Ted leaves four children, Theodore Steiskal and wife Rita of Hillside, Illinois, Karl Steiskal and wife Ellen of Rockford, Illinois, Arlene (Brook) Dykes and her husband Rich of Arizona, Michael Steiskal and wife Nancy of Charleston; five grandchildren, Karl Steiskal, Jr., Keith Steiskal and wife Renee, Jennifer Warrick and husband Clint, Sgt. Michael Steiskal, Theodore (Ted) Steiskal; and two great-grandchildren, Peter and Paul Steiskal. In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by a brother and sister.Ted was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps proudly serving his country as a Navigator during World War II. He received his degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and was employed by the Continental Can Company until his retirement as a Research Chemist. Ted was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Downers Grove, Illinois, a life member of the Mattoon Moose Lodge #803 and held membership with the American Legion Post 0080 in Downers Grove and Post 88 in Mattoon.Ted and Anna made Charleston their home in 1994. When living in DuPage County he was actively involved with its 4-H program and served as a leader for many years. He also earned the title of Master Gardener and could often be found tending his gardens. Ted was devoted to his family as a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather and their fond memories of him and special times shared will be treasured.
