Teresa F. Ritz's Obituary
Teresa F. Ritz, age 79, of Effingham, IL (formerly of Charleston, IL) passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at The Glenwood Assisted Living in Effingham, IL. She was born September 23, 1944 in Wendelin, IL the daughter of Adam and Monica Margaret (Kuenstler) Buerster. She married Robert D. Ritz on December 29, 1964 in Wendelin, IL; he passed away after 54 wonderful years of marriage, on June 24, 2019.
Survivors include her children, Gregory Ritz of Orlando, FL, Rhonda Poulter (Bob) of Aurora, CO, Bryan Ritz (Angela) of Effingham, IL, and Debra Garnica (Bob) of Plainfield, IL; grandchildren, Zachary Ritz, Jordyn Poulter, Lorrin Poulter, Dylan Ritz, Ethan Ritz, Kaia Garnica, and Gavin Garnica; brother, Paul Buerster (Michelle) of Charleston, IL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Mary Jane Keller, Tom Buerster, Edith McDonald, Anna Lou Stone, and Rita Proctor.
Teresa was a graduate of Clay City High School in Clay City, IL. She spent most of her time assisting her husband, Robert, with his business selling items for vending machines and concession stands around the surrounding communities. Teresa also worked as a cook at Lakewood Village in Charleston, IL.
Teresa was a faithful member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston, IL. Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, cooking, playing bingo, cards, watching western movies, doing puzzles, and dancing. She was an avid Illini and Cardinal fan. One of her greatest joys was attending and supporting her grandkid's sports.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024 with Father Braden Maher officiating at St. Borromeo Catholic Church, 921 Madison Ave., Charleston, IL 61920. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to Funeral Mass at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
