Suetta R. Ward's Obituary
Suetta R. Ward, age 88, of Charleston, IL (formerly of Ashmore, IL) passed away at 10:25 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. She was born October 16, 1935 in Ashmore, IL, the daughter of Ray Dallas and Geneva (Prince) Easter. On August 5, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, Billy Dale Ward; he preceded her in death on February 13, 2017.
Survivors include her children, Cindra Stiff (Jimmy Ray) of Philpot, KY, Robert J. Ward (Tiffany) of Mattoon, IL; daughter-in-law, Leslie Patterson of Nexa, MO; son-in-law, Joseph Portillo (Molly) of Charleston, IL; grandchildren, Jeremy (Suzanne), Jason (Angela), Josh (Heather), Jakob, Jarrick (Reagan), Jaydon (Amanda), Layla Jane, Justice (Alexis), Shane (Natosha), and Teleatha; great grandchildren, Josie, Quinn, Lilly, Avery, Jaxon, Abygayle, Elizabeth, Jaythan (JJ), Eli, Calvin, Aiden, Iliana, Jett, Coralee, Jasper, and Taylor; great-great granddaughter, Annabelle; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Annamarie Portillo; son, Mark Ward; and sister, Jorreen Anderson.
Suetta was a 1953 graduate of Charleston High School. She married her soulmate and loved tending to the needs of her husband and children. Suetta ran a licensed day care in her home for many years. Suetta was a member of Jaycees where she volunteered her time and service around the community. She was a reunion officer for the class of 1953, always making sure everyone was aware of local upcoming events. Suetta helped with the scouts and served as the leader for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts throughout the years, always teaching the kids valuable skills that they would utilize in the future.
Suetta was a wonderful person through and through. She always remembered everyone and would send out personal cards reminding them how much they mean to her. She loved watching her grandchildren. Her kitchen was always open to anyone at any time. "Suetta's Diner" was always open. Kids and friends were always welcome.
Graveside Service will be held at St. Omer Cemetery in Ashmore, IL at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Visitation will be held prior to the graveside service from 11:00 a.m to 1 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL.
