Suellen was born on November 5, 1954 in Charleston, Illinois, a daughter of the late William L. and Marian Jeannette (Bennett) Eggers. She married Charles R. Sly on December 7, 2007 in Charleston and he survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brothers and sisters, David (Sally) Eggers of De Soto, MO, Judy (Jeff) Mahle of Paris, IL, Sara (Joe) Riggs of West Union, IL, Ray (Debbie) Eggers of Marshall, IL, Rosie Fry of West Union, IL, Laura Eggers of Marshall, IL, Billy (Sarah) Eggers of Robinson, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Suellen retired from Eastern Illinois University in May of 2014 following a 24 year employment as a librarian at Booth Library. She attended the New Mercy Worship Center in Mattoon and was a member of the international fellowship of A.A. Suellen was an avid reader and learning was a never ending opportunity as she continued to take classes even after receiving her Bachelors Degree from E.I.U. Suellen enjoyed life and helping boost the spirits of others through her humor and laughter. She inherited a green thumb and enjoyed spending time in her beautiful gardens of wildflowers and sunflowers. Shopping at resale shops was an adventure and her collection of hats earned her the title of "hat lady" . She was a mentor to some and was considered to be eccentric by most, but foremost Suellen was a wife, sister and aunt who loved her family dearly. They, along with her sweet canine companion Missy, will miss her but will be comforted through their many wonderful memories.Click to see family memorial video.
