Sue was born on February 24, 1959 in Charleston, IL, a daughter of the late Russell and Maxine (McQueen) Strong. She married her childhood sweetheart, Charlie Rardin, on June 11, 1976 in Charleston and they have celebrated nearly 39 years of marriage. In addition to Charlie, she is survived by their daughter, Jenifer Rardin, also of Loxa; a sister, Diana Acord and husband Jim of Kansas, IL; a brother, Mike Drake and wife Rachel of Charleston; her stepfather, Ken Roedder of Tuscola, IL; and several nieces and nephews including Deana Phillips (Rick) of Lerna, IL, and whom Sue considered to be more like a sister. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Rodgers and a brother, Max Strong. Sue was a graduate of Charleston High School, Class of 1977. Except for the ten years she was employed at CCAR Industries in Charleston, she has enjoyed a more than 27 year employment tenure with Eastern Illinois University. Many relied on her expertise in her current position as Administrative Assistant of the Art Department. Sue and Charlie were well suited for one another. They held the same interests such as their love for the outdoors, and together enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating. Relaxing on the beach while enjoying the sound of the ocean waves, raising and caring for horses, and watching the graceful beauty of the hummingbirds were also things Sue was fond of. Sue devoted her life to her family as a loving wife and mother, cherished the special relationship she shared with her siblings and their families, and always managed to save plenty of attention for her canine family member, Dusty. As a result of her warm and friendly smile and considerate attitude toward others, Sue was blessed with a wealth of friends. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who loved her.Click to view Sue's memorial video.
