I first met Mike in 1970 after coming to Millikin University from the Washington DC area with the hope of joining the Jazz Lab Band at the college. Once in the jazz band I still had a passion for rock music and, thanks to the guitarist in the band, Chuck Wolfer, I was introduced to Mike as part of a new rock band we formed called Hickory Point. Mike was a spark plug for the group, playing the Hammond B-3 organ with expertise and fun. I'd say Mike's part in that band was what made it unique and helped it become one of the more successful rock bands in central Illinois for that early 70's time period. Later, bassist Steve Anderson joined the band and we took it to an even greater level. I loved Mike, his sense of humor, and his musicianship. I'm so glad I got to reconnect with Mike recently. I only wish we could have spent some time together after that. I wish his family, Roberta, the best and will always hold a special place in my memories for Mike.
