Shirley E. Walters' Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Shirley Ellen Walters, age 64 of Charleston, passed away in the comfort of her home and in the loving presence of her family on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Her family will host an Open House for friends from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 2005 Stoner Drive West in Charleston. Later this Spring a celebration of Shirley's life for family and friends will be conducted by Tom Rose and will be held at the family's cabin. A private family inurnment will follow in Liberty Cemetery located in Hutton Township. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Gifts may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Shirley was born on June 6, 1949 in Charleston to Kenneth and Betty (Mock) Walters. She was married to Terry Doss and they were blessed with one daughter. In addition to her daughter, Missy Wheatley and special friend Brian Ozee of Charleston, she is survived by two grandchildren, Ariona Ellen Langston and boyfriend Preston Storment and Jimmy Wheatley, all of Charleston; her mother, Betty Walters of Charleston; two sisters, Sharon Runnels and husband Alan of Charleston and Katie Wildman and husband Larry of Spring, Texas; and nieces and nephews and their families including Nichole Peterson and Todd Lawyer (often referred to as the son she never had) of Charleston and Carey Junkins of Florida. She was preceded in death by her father. For more than 20 years Shirley was called the ""French Fry Lady"" by her dedicated and devoted customers who soon became friends. Shirley possessed a bubbly personality and warm smile which she shared with everyone. When she wasn't cooking french fries you could find her in her workshop using her hands to craft wooden furniture. Shirley's favorite place was at the cabin sitting on the dock with fishing pole in hand. Shirley was at peace with her illness and stayed strong for her family and friends. They embraced her unwavering strength and will always remember her with a special love and devotion.
