Sharon A. Wendel's Obituary
Sharon Wendel, age 86, of Decatur, Illinois, formerly of Charleston, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025, at The Loft Rehabilitation of Rock Springs.
She was born on August 1, 1939, in Oakland, Illinois, the daughter of Percy and Lenore (Starke) Wendel.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Tammy Lynn Kindred of Decatur, Illinois, and her sister-in-law, Fae Wendel of Oakland, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kimberly Jo Locken Perez; three infant children; her brothers, Larry and Jack Wendel; and her sister-in-law, Sherry Wendel.
Sharon was a graduate of Oakland High School and spent 45 years living in California before returning to central Illinois, where she made her home in Charleston. When her daughter, Tammy, was born weighing just 1½ pounds, Sharon met the challenge with unwavering love and determination, ensuring that Tammy not only survived but went on to live a full and meaningful life. Sharon was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Charleston. In later years, she moved to Decatur to be closer to her daughter.
During her working years, Sharon was employed as a secretary for Gordon & Gray, a collection agency in California. Prior to that, she worked for the American Heart Association in California.
In her leisure time, Sharon enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles, activities that brought her relaxation and enjoyment.
