Sandra L. Horath's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Sandra Layne Horath, age 76 of Hutton Township, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Graveside Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston with Reverend Dr. Bob Swickard officiating. There will be no visitation. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Foundation. Gifts may be mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Sandra was born September 4, 1940 in Charleston, Illinois, the daughter of the late Owen and Mary (Crosley) Shobe. She married Duane Horath on December 22, 1957 and they recently celebrated 59 years of marriage. In addition to Duane, she is survived by her children, Larry Horath and girlfriend Rebecca Cromwell of California, PA and Lori Douglas and husband John of Charleston; 4 grandchildren, Jamie Douglas, Bethany McKenzie, Elyse Reihner and husband Thomas, and Rachael Horath; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Sara McKenzie; and a brother, James Shobe and wife Carol of Effingham. Sandy was a Charleston High School graduate and spent 37 years in the field of banking. She began her career in the auditing department at Charleston National Bank and retired as Vice-President and Comptroller at Bank of America. Sandy's avid interest in gardening kept her quite busy. She was known for raising the tastiest blackberries and for her many varieties of gourds which she supplied to various locations throughout the United States. When she wasn't gardening, Sandy and Duane enjoyed their many travels in their motor home to various destinations of choice. Sandy's cheerful and upbeat attitude guaranteed that you would always be greeted with a smile. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. Those who knew and loved her have been blessed with many fond memories of special times shared.
