Sabina L. McNutt's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Sabina Lynne McNutt, age 68 of Charleston, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 17, 2011at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. In accordance with her wishes her physical body will be cremated. Memorial Services honoring and celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Sweeney officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 4:30 - 7:30 at the funeral chapel. It is requested that memorial gifts in her honor be made to the Eastern Illinois University Foundation. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Sabina was born in Mattoon, Illinois on December 5, 1942 a daughter of the late Junior P. and Merlene (Barger) Crail. She married James L. McNutt on December 1, 1963 at the First Christian Church in Charleston. She is survived by Jim, her loving and devoted husband of forty-seven years; two children, Toni McNutt of Charleston and Jim McNutt, Jr. and his fiancé Danielle Stingel of Kannapolis, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Kendra Kuhstoss of Urbana, Illinois, Payton McNutt of Charleston, Natalia McNutt and Maya McNutt, both of Kannapolis; two great-grandchildren, Candice Lipton of Charleston and Mallory Barbee of Urbana; a sister, Tamara ""Tammy"" Crail-Walters and husband Peyton of Lufkin, Texas; two brothers, William L. ""Bill"" Crail and wife Sylvia of Onalaska, Wisconsin and James P. ""Jim"" Crail and his wife Debby of Greenville, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and their families. In addition to her parents, Sabina was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Crail. Sabina was a 1960 graduate of Charleston High School and furthered her education at Eastern Illinois University where she received both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees. For the past eighteen years she has been employed with the Cumberland School District as a teacher in their elementary education program in Greenup. In addition to teaching Sabina took an active role as an advocate for the teacher's union by serving on the Negotiating and Executive Committee as well as serving in other facets of administrative service. Sabina was a member of the National Education Association, Illinois Education Association and the Cumberland Education Association. In earlier years she was a member of Job's Daughters and Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Sabina was a woman of faith and family. She was an active member of the Tri-County Community Church in Ashmore and the matriarch of her loved ones. Her devotion for each of her family members was paramount as was evident in the loyal and loving relationships they shared. Sabina believed that it was essential to be involved in the lives of her family and volunteered as a coach, a member of the Charleston Booster Club, and was always on the sidelines offering her support and encouragement. Jim and Toni could always rely on their mother being their biggest fan. Sabina also shared her enthusiasm for sports and she and Jim enjoyed attending Charleston High School and Eastern Illinois University events as well as cheering for the University of Illinois, the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, and watching horse racing. Many fond memories have been created with Sabina playing Bingo at the VFW and in the comfort of their home watching nightly episodes of Wheel of Fortune. In addition to being a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Sabina was also special in the lives of her brothers and sister and their families. Her numerous friends and co-workers who admired and respected her is also a testament to the esteemed relationships she built with others. Sabina will be truly missed. The life she lived speaks volumes as to the wonderful and loving woman she was and the special ways in which she touched the lives of others.
