Rosalee Noble's Obituary
Rosalee Noble, 82, of Charleston, IL (formerly of Carbondale, IL) passed away peacefully, holding her oldest son's hand, at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL. She was born on September 26, 1941, in Carbondale, IL, the daughter of Sidney Lee and Lillian (Ohara) Settlemoir. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 1960, she married the love of her life, Terrell Lee Noble, in Carbondale, IL.
Rosalee is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Terry Noble of Charleston, IL; her son, Richard Noble (Connie) of Farmer City, IL; her grandchildren, Craig Noble (Gina) of Mooresville, NC, Ashley Noble-Hieronymus of Farmer City, IL, Luke Noble of Mattoon, IL, Noah Noble of Mattoon, IL, and Stephanie Noble of Mattoon, IL; and her great-grandchildren, Bella Noble of Mooresville, NC, Paisley Hieronymus of Farmer City, IL, Bristol Noble of Mooresville, NC, and Hank Hieronymus of Farmer City, IL. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Launa Noble. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Timothy Noble, and her grandson-in-law Nathan Hieronymus.
A 1959 graduate of Carbondale High School, Rosalee attended Southern Illinois University. She met her husband, Terry, in 1959 at the Duquoin State Fair while attending the USAC Race. Rosalee worked as an office manager in the placement center at Eastern Illinois University from 1960 until her retirement in 1996.
Rosalee was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston, IL, and was very active with the Drag Racing Association of Women (DRAW) since 1986. She became a board member in 1991, vice president in 1992, and president in 1993 and 1994. From 1995 until her passing, she served as the fundraising chair.
Rosalee had a passion for drag racing, which she discovered at age 50 in 1992. She raced for 30 years at the Coles County Dragway in her 1982 Buick LeSabre Station wagon, affectionately called the Care Wagon. She was a three-time Coles County Dragway Champion and a runner-up in the Division 3 Race of Champions, earning respect and admiration from her competitors. Rosalee also had a deep love for her family and enjoyed attending her grandchildren's events.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, with Pastor Mickey Prestridge officiating at Adams Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL.
