Ronald Wayne Coartney's Obituary
Ronald Wayne Coartney, age 89, of Charleston, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Ron was born on December 21, 1935, in Ashmore Township, IL, to Harvey Wayne and Mary Jane (Wright) Coartney.
On March 22, 1959, he married the love of his life, Donna Weston, in Olney, IL. Together, they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and family.
Ron leaves behind his beloved wife Donna Coartney of Charleston; three children: Stephen R. (Brenda) Coartney of Milwaukee, WI, Stephanie L. Coartney of Louisville, KY, and Stacy W. (Connie) Coartney of Louisville, KY; seven cherished grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters. He has one remaining brother.
Ron was a proud graduate of Charleston High School, Class of 1953. He continued his education at Eastern Illinois University, where he earned his master’s degree. A dedicated professional, Ron spent many years serving his community as the owner and operator of Ron Coartney Realty before retiring.
A man of deep faith, Ron was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston. His commitment to service extended beyond the church through his involvement in civic organizations including AMBUCS (American Business Club), the Kiwanis Club, Moose Lodge #1388, and the Charleston Country Club.
Ron embraced life fully. He enjoyed playing card games and golf. He found peace in farming, and cherished camping and traveling with his wife, family and friends. Known for his kindness, steady presence, warm smile and sense of humor, Ron will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service to honor Ron's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Enon Cemetery, 23262 E. County Rd. 880 N., Ashmore, IL, with Pastor Brad Shumaker officiating.
