Rockford G. Hargis' Obituary
Rockford G. "Roc" Hargis, 70, of Charleston, IL passed away on October 23, 2024 at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL. He was born November 12, 1953 in Ashmore, IL to Wilford and Jenne R. (Johns) Hargis in Ashmore, IL.
A 1972 graduate of Charleston High School, Roc served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Constellation Aircraft Carrier before his discharge. When he returned home, he worked at Sturdy Built Building Construction and later at Baldwin Pontiac in Charleston, IL, and worked for a company building satellite towers across the country. Additionally, Roc was a bartender and trophy maker at Charleston Lanes Bowling Alley for many years and later retired as a press operator at JJ Collins Manufacturing.
Roc attended Harrison Street Church and enjoyed hiking, kayaking, bicycling, and outdoor activities. He was also known for being an exceptional cook.
Roc is survived by his daughter, Roxanne R. Hargis of Charleston, IL; two brothers, Wilford Hargis of Ashmore, IL, and Steve (Goldie) Hargis of Arcola, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
