Robert S. Miller's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Robert S. Miller, age 80 of Charleston, passed while at home on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. A visitation for friends and family will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. There will be no public service. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Charleston Food Pantry. Gifts may be left at the visitation or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.Robert was born November 27, 1937 in Hutton Township, Coles County, Illinois. He was the son of the late Robert James and Electa Verne (Endsley) Miller. Left to cherish many wonderful memories are those he referred to as his "Fantastic Six" - his children, Kathy Zuniga and husband Bob and Scott Miller and wife Christy, all of Charleston and two grandchildren, Bobby Miller and Emily Zuniga. Also surviving is his sister, Helen Harwood now residing in Neoga, Illinois and the newest addition to his family, a precious great-granddaughter, Copelyn and her mother MaKayla. In addition to his parents, Robert was also preceded in death by three sisters, Phyllis Shaffer, Charlotte Start and Marilyn "Mem" Wuersch.Bob was a 1955 graduate of Charleston High School and a 1959 graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. He was employed as a chemist with Allied Chemical in Delaware for many years before returning to Charleston to help his brother-in-law as a carpenter for Shaffer Construction.Bob had mastered the game of Bridge and shared his love for the game with his daughter, Kathy who was his favorite bridge partner. They played with several local bridge clubs and Bob was a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League. Bob was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinal fan, enjoyed outings with family to his favorite restaurant "El Rancherito" , and loved riding his bicycle, sometimes as far as to Mattoon and back. Bob was truly a flower gardener and spring and summer transformed his backyard into a beautiful work of art with amazing azalea shrubs and various brilliantly colored flowerbeds, which he so meticulously cared for.Bob's love and devotion for his family was unquestionable and was dedicated to always putting them first. He was a vital part of their life and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchild. His loving and gentle kindness earned him the respect and love of many who even referred to him as "grandpa" . Bob leaves his family and friends with an abundance of memories of wonderful times shared.Click to view Family Memorial Video.
