Robert F. ""Bob"" Lawhorn's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Robert Floyd Lawhorn, age 79 of Charleston, passed away at his home on Monday, March 13, 2017. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday with Reverend Tom Farris officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Charleston Moose Lodge #1388. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Bob was born February 12, 1938 in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of the late Henry and Ruth (Groves) Lawhorn. He married Katherine E. "Kack" Hudson on April 4, 1965 at the Whetstone Baptist Church in Hutton Township. They shared 47 years of marriage prior to her death on October 11, 2012. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Leeanne Reed and husband Rick of rural Charleston and Rita Guyette and husband Mike of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Kaleb Reed and Klaire Reed, both of rural Charleston; two sisters, Louise Sanders of Mattoon and JoAnn (Joe) Delaney of Forest, IL; two brothers-in-law, Dick Evans of Mattoon and Joe Hudson of Phoenix, Arizona; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Bob was a 1956 graduate of Mattoon High School and began learning the carpentry trade at the age of 15. Following high school he served his country with the United States Army. For many years he was a self-employed finishing carpenter and later went to work for Drake Homes in Charleston where he was employed until his retirement. He was a 45 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local Union #347 and a lifelong member of the Charleston Moose Lodge #1388. Bob always looked forward to the arrival of spring and warm weather as it meant that he would soon be able to enjoy his favorite hobby of vegetable gardening. When he wasn't experiencing the joy of planting and tending to his huge vegetable garden, Bob could be found watching a NASCAR race or cheering for his beloved Chicago Cubs - Go Cubs Go!
