Robert L. Corder's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Robert L. Corder, age 87, passed away peacefully at his Hutton Township home on Monday, August 1, 2016. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral chapel with Pastor Scott Bayles officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery located southeast of Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Coles County Sheriff's Department. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Bob was born December 10, 1928 in Akron, Ohio to the late Oral and Emel (Jones) Corder. He married Martha L. Stubblefield in Dayton, Ohio on December 31, 1949 and they shared 62 years of marriage prior to her death on July 28, 2012. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Barbara Conway of Hutton Township, Bob Corder and wife Carole of Fishers, IN, Janette Diaz of Greenup, IL, Lynda Hayton and husband Kevin of Evansville, IN and Roy Corder and wife Patricia of Greenup, IL; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Daniel Conway; and two brothers, Weston and Kenneth Corder.Bob graduated from Northridge High School in Dayton, OH and served with the Ohio Air National Guard Unit. He was manager of Thom Mcan Shoe Stores in Ohio, Indiana and Florida before accepting a management position with Stop-N-Go Stores in Ohio and Illinois. Many will remember him as manager of the Stop-N-Go located at the corner of Division and Lincoln Avenues. Bob attended the Providence Separate Baptist Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed vegetable gardening, mowing, and watching the many birds whose feeders he kept well stocked. Bob dearly loved his country home and the peaceful solitude that country living provided.Click to view Bob's memorial video.
