Richard L. Smith's Obituary
INDIALANTIC, FL - Richard "Dick" Leigh Smith, age 72 of Indialantic, Florida (formerly of Charleston), went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2019 while in the comforting presence of his loving family. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. A private Graveside Service and Inurnment, in celebration of his life will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. Dick's family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in his honor be made to the EIU Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic or the Wounded Warrior Project. Gifts may be left at the visitation or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Dick was born on February 18, 1947 in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of Otto and Lola (Crum) Smith and was also the beloved son-in-law of Fritz and Betty Bieber. Left to cherish their many wonderful memories are his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Penny Smith of Indialantic; his children, Scott Smith and fiance Stephanie Pankey and Brian Smith and wife Jennifer, all of Charleston; his grandchildren, Ashley Barker (Isaac) and Carley Inboden (Riley) of Champaign, Illinois and Brandon Smith, Blake Smith, and Molly Smith, all of Charleston. Dick is also survived by his great-grandson, Oliver Barker of Champaign and numerous friends. Dick spent his first 39 years as a resident of Charleston and graduated from Charleston High School in 1965. He began his career at Moore Business Forms, followed by Illinois Consolidated, Bruning, Edward D. Jones, Sherwin Williams, Teldyne Post, and Dietzgen. Before his retirement, he lived in Arlington Heights, Illinois and worked for the Federal Government as Assistant Deputy Director of the GSA. Dick and wife Penny realized and experienced their lifetime dream of retirement in sunny Florida on the beaches of Indialantic for the past 10 years. Additionally, they spent their time traveling around the world. In his free time, you could find Dick on the golf course or keeping busy helping out and completing projects around the condo building. Dick will truly be missed and will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
