Richard Paul Mullins' Obituary
MATTOON, IL - Richard Paul Mullins, age 85 of Mattoon and formerly of Charleston, entered into a better place on Friday, December 30, 2016 while at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Memorial Graveside Services honoring and celebrating his life will be held at a later date in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter. Gifts may be mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Richard was born February 5, 1931 in Charleston, IL, one of twelve children born to the late Russell and Wilhelmina (Tesseman) Mullins. Following the death of his first wife Vi, Richard married Rosetta White on July 2, 1981 and she preceded him in death on March 21, 2003. He is survived by two brothers, Rex (Paula) Mullins and Norman Mullins, both of Mattoon; and two sisters, Betty Centers and Linda Hampton, both of Charleston; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to both wives, he was preceded by two sisters, Florence Cooley and Wanda Snoddy; and 5 brothers, Dale, Gene, Don, Jim and Kenneth. Richard held employment at a Foundry in Rockford, Illinois and at a Tow Bar Manufacturing Plant in Elgin, IL before retirement. Following his retirement and after relocating to Mattoon, he enjoyed doing maintenance work for the YMCA and Fellowship Center. Richard was baptized and raised in the Lutheran church. He was a kind and gentle man of few words and always respectful of others. He loved being outdoors and held his family members in high esteem, especially enjoying his weekly visits with brother, Rex. He and Rosetta enjoyed traveling and following her death, Richard devoted much of his time to his cats Stubby and Bella.
