Richard H. Holt's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Richard H. Holt, age 75 of Charleston, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 while at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. A Graveside Service with Military Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Greenup Cemetery in Greenup, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to the Arcola Spanish Church or a Mission Ministry of the donor's preference, and mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Richard was born November 18, 1944 in New York, New York, the son of Edwin and Mary (Gilpin) Holt. He married Mary Ruth Stroud and later married Virginia Cariaga. He is survived by his mother, Mary Holt of Charleston; daughters, Amanda Smart and husband Franklin of Brazil, Indiana, Rebecca Holt of Niles, Illinois and Jackie Cariaga of Rockford, Illinois. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Michael Smart and wife Whitney, Jessica Smart, Elizabeth Smart and Raul Cardenas III; two brothers, Edwin Holt and wife Debbie of Chesterville, Illinois and John Holt and wife Dorian of Shelbyville, Indiana; and a sister, Mary VanScyoc and husband Leo of Charleston. He was preceded in death by his father, and two sisters, Judith Fullerton and Charlotte Green. Richard honorably served his country from 1964 - 1967 with the United States Air Force. He attended Lake Land College and received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University where he was employed prior to his retirement as a computer tech. Richard always enjoyed helping others less fortunate and had attended and continued to support the Arcola Spanish Church in Arcola, Illinois. He was an avid reader and his interests were varied.
