Rex Wayne Richey's Obituary
Rex Wayne Richey, age 80, of Ashmore, IL, passed away at 7:36 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024. He was born April 28, 1944 in Ashmore, IL, the son of Norman Allen and Beatrice Margarete (Shoot) Richey. He married Sandra Graham. She passed away on February 21, 2004.
Survivors include his two sisters, Virginia "Ginny" Brown and Lois Coon, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Dale Richey, Ethel Woodyard, Irene Woodyard, Glen "Bud" Richey, Erlene Shaffer, and Carolyn Johnson.
Rex was known for his exceptional carpentry skills and dedicated self-employment in this trade until his retirement in 1994. A faithful member of the Ashmore Baptist Church, he had a passion for collecting antiques and toy tractors, alongside a deep love for dogs. Rex's care extended to the wildlife in his yard, where he regularly fed deer, squirrels, and birds, reflecting his kind and nurturing spirit. He also held a fondness for vintage cars.
A Funeral Service honoring Rex's life will take place at noon on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, IL, followed by burial in Ashmore Cemetery, Ashmore, IL. Visitation hours will be observed from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ashmore Fire Department, 10 W. Ashmore St., Ashmore, IL 61912.
