Prentiss ""Pug"" Faw's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Prentiss M. "Pug" Faw, age 91 of Charleston, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015 at his Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation residence. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, August 3, 2015 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday with Pastor Parker Boothe officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Charleston Lions Club. Gifts may be left during the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Prentiss was born on February 24, 1924 in Weatherford, TX, a son of the late A.L. and Naomi (Elliott) Faw. He married Evelyn (Elder) Hamner on August 21, 1959 in Kahoka, MO and they celebrated nearly 52 years of marriage prior to her death on July 2, 2011. Prentiss is survived by their children, Jerry Hamner and wife Stephanie, Shirley Eastin and husband Rick, and Chuck Faw, all of Charleston, Luanne Faw-Green of Hamilton, TX, and Teresa Turner and husband Tony of Lancaster, TX; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Royal Faw of Oklahoma City, OK; a sister, Rosalyn Robertson and husband Don of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews and their families. He was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Faw, and a brother, Duane Faw. Prentiss was a United States Navy Veteran who proudly and honorably served his country during WWII. He was employed by Moore Business Forms for 42 years and was instrumental in helping to establish and prepare the Charleston facility for operation. He was a plant foreman and retired with the title of Methods Analyst. Following retirement Prentiss kept busy driving and delivering cars for Mooney Ford. His position with Moore Business Forms brought Prentiss to Charleston and it soon became home for he and his family. His leadership qualities along with his honesty, integrity and commitment to helping others was evident as he became actively involved in the community through organizations such as the Charleston Chamber of Commerce serving as President of its Board of Directors in 1964, and through his position on the Charleston Hospital Board and the Area E-7 Board, which was organized to oversee the development, organization and administration of Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. He was a 60 year Mason, and a 50 year member of Toastmasters International and was instrumental in establishing the Coles County Lincoln Trails Club. He was a long time member of the Charleston Lions Club and was honored with a Melvin Jones Fellow for his dedicated humanitarian services, and was a Life Member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592. Prentiss enjoyed woodworking and carving and for years made and sold boomerangs. He was also known to enjoy an afternoon out on the golf course. Prentiss was blessed with not only a sense of humor but with a "gift of gab" as well. He could entertain for hours with stories and jokes - he truly enjoyed making people smile. Prentiss possessed the qualities of a good friend and was devoted and dedicated to his family. He was a man who was truly loved and admired by many.
