Paul Thennes' Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Paul Thennes, age 66 of Charleston and formerly of McHenry, IL, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 while at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. A Graveside Service for family and friends will be held the Saturday following Thanksgiving, November 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Mound Cemetery in Charleston. Military Services will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592. During his 13 years there, the nurses, caregivers and staff at the Veteran's Home in Quincy provided exceptional care. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in his honor be made to the Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy for the Activity Fund; to the Wounded Warrior Project; or to a Veterans' organization of your choosing. Gifts may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Paul was born September 21, 1949 in McHenry, IL to the late Edward J. and Agnes M. (Guerin) Thennes. On June 17, 1978 he married Marjorie E. Thoele in Teutopolis, IL. He is survived by his loving wife Margie of Charleston; two brothers, Tom Thennes and Karen of McHenry, IL, Richard Thennes and Mary of Crystal Lake, IL; two sisters, Martha Peters and Jim of McHenry, IL, Ann Thennes and Don Hodgkins of Lake Tahoe, CA; and 31 nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a stepmother, Grace Thennes; and two brothers, Mark and Gere Thennes. Paul earned an Associate's Degree from McHenry College and attended Eastern Illinois University for two years. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the 36th Engineer Battalion Company D, United States Army. Paul was Seven Hickory Township Road Commissioner for many years before working at E.I.U. as a groundskeeper. He was a member of the American Legion and a Life Member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592. Paul loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, but he will be remembered most for his kindness, his generosity, and his big smile. He was a good and gentle man.
