Nina was born on January 7, 1943 in Rardin, Illinois, a daughter of the late Everett and Wanda (Michael) Pfeiffer. She married Myron R. "Ronnie" Salmon on July 2, 1961 in Charleston. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2011 shortly after celebrating 50 years of marriage. Nina is survived by her three sons, Myron T. Salmon and wife Peggy of rural Mattoon, Marvin R. Salmon of Melbourne, Florida and Roger R. Salmon and fiancé Amy Dawson of Monticello, Illinois; two grandchildren, Ryan Salmon of Nashville, Tennessee and Kara Salmon of Crystal Lake, Illinois and her fiancé Marc Hitchen of Evanston, Illinois; a step-granddaughter, Ashley Dawson of Champaign, Illinois; a brother, Larry Pfeiffer and wife Charlotte of Charleston, and several nieces and nephews. Nina was also preceded in death by a brother, Rex Pfeiffer. Nina was a Charleston High School graduate and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Illinois University. She was employed for many years as a store manager for Carle Medical Supply at both the Urbana and Mattoon locations. Nina was a huge Elvis fan and enjoyed the convenience of shopping from home as an avid QVC shopper. She shared a passion for bowling with her husband and for many years they bowled together in the Charleston league for mixed doubles. Nina also enjoyed making annual trips to the Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana with family and friends as well as attending the Coles County Fair. Life for Nina was all about her family. Being a loving and supportive wife for Ronnie and a loving and devoted mother to her three sons was her priority. With three boys there were many sporting events and activities to attend, but Nina was faithful in her attendance and present for them all - she was their biggest supporter and fan. This loving devotion was extended to her grandchildren as they received that same unconditional love and encouragement that as a grandmother she so readily and freely gave. Nina will be fondly remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her heartwarming smile, her positive and fun-loving attitude, and her appreciation of family.click to view Nina's memorial video.
