Nancy J. Psik's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Nancy Joan Psik, age 78 of Charleston, passed away while in the comfort of her home and in the presence of her loving family on Monday, September 1, 2014. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, September 5, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating her life will be held at the funeral chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, immediately following the visitation, with Pastor Larry Clonch officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to Adams Funeral Chapel to assist the family with final expenses. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Nancy was born on January 9, 1936 in Humboldt, IL, a daughter of the late Jacob Harrison and Lydia Mary (Welsh) Cox. On December 28, 1951 she married Bradley Parker and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2006. She is survived by their five children: Terry Lee Parker and wife Priscilla of Rardin, IL, Patsy Parker of Redmond, OR, Dale Parker and wife Jayne Ann of Charleston, Jeffrey Parker of Colorado and Susan Parker, also of Redmond; 6 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren including Jacob (Laurie) Kingsbury and their children, Cheyenne, Claudia and Erik; Lydia (Tim) Nowlin and their children, NoeL and her husband Nathan, and Timmy; Terry (Kelly) Parker, Jr. and their children, Ray, Damian, Samantha, Zach, Bryant, LeeAnn and William; Teresa (Daniel) McKinney and their daughter, Priscilla and her boyfriend Zach; Anthony (Jennifier) Parker and their children, Kaitlyn, Holley and Jacob; and Jeremiah Parker-Massey and his child, Dresdin; two sisters, Beth Haverstock of Charleston and Helen (Kenneth) Slifer of Mode, IL; two brothers, Jacob (Berdina) Cox of Fulton, MO and David (Nancy) Cox of Charleston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nancy was also preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Lydia (Gene) Shaffer. Nancy was blessed with an extended family of children and grandchildren as a result of many close friendships. She often referred to them as her inherited family and they include, Jeff Barlow and wife Debbie, Jeanine "Sue" Cox and husband Bill, Mary Garman, Max Adkins, Lori Steevens and husband John, Jason Apple and wife Amanda, along with their families. Nancy had a compassionate heart and a gift for helping others. She worked as a CNA in the Detroit, MI area for 7 years and was also employed by various health care facilities in the Charleston area. Nancy also enjoyed volunteer work and for many years was a volunteer with the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center Guild. She has been a longtime faithful member of the Mattoon Seventh Day Adventist Church and dearly loved her church family. Nancy enjoyed traveling when given the opportunity, and especially enjoyed traveling through the mountains in the Western United States and along the West Coast. She also spent a great deal of time on craft projects to be given as gifts to others. Nancy's love and generosity extended beyond her own family as she always placed the needs of others before her own. She will always be remembered for her virtues of compassion, loving kindness and selfless generosity by her family and many friends. to view Nancy's memorial video.
