Nancy Jane MacLaughlin Cuddy's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Nancy Jane MacLaughlin Cuddy, age 83 of Charleston and formerly of Middletown, NY, joined her Lord and Savior on Good Friday, March 25, 2016 while at Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 902 Cleveland Avenue in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church with Pastor Ken Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Charleston Food Pantry or to Genesis Animal Rescue. Gifts may be left during the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Nancy was born March 21, 1933 in Syracuse, NY to the late Francis and Alice (Geiger) MacLaughlin. She married William Thomas Cuddy, Jr. on September 20, 1953 in Middletown and they were blessed with 55 years of marriage and a wonderful family prior to his death on September 29, 2008. Surviving are their five children, Deborah Cuddy of Charleston, William Cuddy, III (Mary Lou) of Ballston Spa, NY, Michael Cuddy (Lora), Richard Cuddy, and Melinda Mueller (Eric), all of Charleston; 7 grandchildren, Sean Cuddy (Anna), Elizabeth Cuddy, Michael Cuddy II (Kristin), Jesse Cuddy (Lindsay), Connor Cuddy, Katherine Mueller and Matthew Mueller. Nancy was anxiously awaiting with great joy and anticipation the birth of her first great grandchild, expected in April. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Burlingame. Nancy was a 1951 graduate of Middletown High School and furthered her education at Centenery Jr. College in Hackettstown, NJ, attaining an Associate's Degree in 1953. She retired in 1991 following a 26 year employment as senior stenographer for the Middletown Board of Education. Nancy had a deep and abiding faith and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Middletown and later a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mattoon. Currently she attended and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charleston. Nancy was an avid reader, enjoyed stamp collecting and was interested in family history and genealogy. She spent a great deal of time researching and organizing items of family history which included the assembling of numerous photo albums that are now priceless keepsakes. Nancy's love and concern for animals was displayed especially through the wonderful care of her own dog, Casey. Nancy always made her family her number one priority in life - they were nurtured through her unconditional love, guidance and wisdom that was freely gifted to each of them. Nancy will always be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit and the positive manner in which she influenced the lives of all she met. Click to view Nancy's memorial video.
