Myron ""Ronnie"" Salmon's Obituary
MATTOON, IL - Myron ""Ronnie"" Salmon, age 72 of Mattoon and formerly of the Hindsboro and Monticello areas, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at his home. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday (December 23) from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Funeral Chapel with Reverend Walter Carlson officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that memorial gifts in his honor be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Ronnie was born on December 5, 1939 in Douglas County, Illinois near Tuscola and was the son of William Lloyd and Marie Salmon. He married Nina R. Pfeiffer on July 2, 1961 in Charleston and earlier this year they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He is survived by his loving wife Nina of Mattoon; three sons, Myron T. Salmon and wife Peggy of rural Mattoon, Marvin R. Salmon of Melbourne, Florida, Roger R. Salmon and his fiancé Amy Dawson of Monticello, Illinois; two grandchildren, Ryan Salmon and Kara Salmon; a step-grandchild, Ashley Dawson; three brothers, William Roger Salmon and wife Sue of Tolono, Illinois, Fred R. Salmon of St. Charles, Missouri, Randy Salmon and wife Rosie of California; a sister, Rinda Clement of California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ronnie was a graduate of Oakland High School and for more than thirty years was employed in the maintenance department of Kraft Foods in Champaign. He was an avid bowler and for many years he and Nina bowled in a mixed doubles league. He also enjoyed hunting, was an INDY CAR and NASCAR fan, and for Ronnie it was a good day when Jeff Gordon won! He was an Illini Football and Basketball season ticket holder and enjoyed attending games often times with his son, Myron. Ronnie was a man who valued his family and was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather, who was supportive of his grandchildren through his attendance at their various activities. Ronnie also enjoyed many good friendships - and on a daily basis would gather with several friends at McDonalds and also at Hardees to share a cup of coffee along with good conversation.
