Mildred ""Millie"" Cook's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Mildred M. Cook, age 79 of Charleston, entered her Heavenly Home on Monday, December 28, 2015 while at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral chapel with Pastors Rusty Cook and Tom Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the American Cancer Society. Gifts may be left during the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Mille was born October 24, 1936 in rural Ashmore, Illinois, a daughter of the late Tom and Nancy J. (Cassiday) Farris. She and John Cook were united in marriage on March 31, 1955 in Charleston. She is survived by John, her loving and devoted husband of nearly 61 years; three children, David Cook and Paula Todd and husband Louie, all of Charleston and Doug Cook and wife Mary of Panama City, Florida; seven grandchildren, Letitia (John) Wilson, Jeremy Cook, Derek (Kim) Cook, Kim Lemay, Rusty (Konnie) Cook, Courtney (Derrick) Scott and Kaitlin (Eric) Miller; seven great-grandchildren and another on the way; two sisters, Mary Connour of Charleston and Martha (Butch) Bennett of Ashmore; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Farris. Millie was a graduate of Charleston High School and devoted her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family. She was a serious bowler who enjoyed the game and was a member of the Charleston Women's Bowling Association and United States Bowling Congress (USBC). Millie was also a member of the Women of the Moose Charleston Chapter #1175, the Genealogical Society, and as a member and past president of the afternoon Canasta Card Club, where many memorable afternoons were spent playing cards, socializing, and just having a good time. Millie's generosity was extended to many through her volunteer work. She began volunteering at the Charleston Memorial Hospital and later with the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center Guild, for a combined total of 52 years. She never knew the meaning of the word "stranger" and her genuine concern and love for others made it quite easy for Millie to talk with anyone. She was especially known to hold up her end of long phone conversations! She enjoyed cooking and crafting projects and all her family members have been gifted and blessed with a quilted or crocheted blanket. Millie left the vegetable gardening to John and other family members and spent many enjoyable hours tending to her plants and flower gardens. She was a good friend who nurtured many long and enduring friendships. She loved her family dearly and taking care of them was her number one priority. She will forever be remembered by her friends and family for her kind and generous spirit, her warm and loving embraces and her genuine goodness.Click to view Family Memorial Video.
