Michael V. Sweeney's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Michael Vincent Sweeney, age 59 of Charleston, was in the comforting presence of his family when he passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015 while at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Michael's family will host a "Celebration of Life" for family and friends from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Roc's Restaurant located at 410 Sixth Street in Charleston. A Private Inurnment will be held at a later date in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Gifts may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Mike was born August 13, 1956 in Longview, TX, one of three sons born to the late James Edward and Annie (Smith) Sweeney. He is survived by his brothers, Pat Sweeney and wife Kim of rural Charleston and Kelly Sweeney and wife Laurie of Shelbyville, IL; and his nieces and nephews, Jamie Sweeney, Pat Sweeney, Jr., Erin Sweeney, Max Sweeney and Ben Sweeney. Mike was a graduate of Charleston High School - Class of 1975. He was formerly employed at Hydro-Gear in Sullivan and was a member of the former Charleston Eagles Club. Mike enjoyed watching sporting events and was an avid Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan. Fishing was a hobby he truly enjoyed, but nothing made Mike happier than being with family. He dearly loved his nieces and nephews and they were especially fond of him as well. Mike possessed a generous and giving spirit and was willing to help anyone. He will forever be remembered by many for his kindness, and his friends and family will hold near and dear their many treasured memories.
