Merle Francis Myerscough's Obituary
Merle Myerscough, age 96, of Charleston, IL (formerly of Taylorville, IL) passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Charleston Rehab and Health Care Center in Charleston, IL. He was born on April 10, 1928 in Taylorville, IL, the son of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Young) Myerscough. On September 23, 1948, Merle married the love of his life, Loraine Fleagle, in Taylorville, IL. They shared 64 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on April 26, 2013.
Merle is survived by his five sons, Jerry Myerscough (Carol), Dave Myerscough (Althea Pendergast), and Kevin Myerscough (Cindy) all of Charleston, IL, Brian Myerscough of Effingham, IL and Mark Myerscough (Denise) of Normal, IL; his sisters, Margaret Ann Tazioli of Highland Park, IL and Rose Carol Huber of Sun City, FL; and his 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Merle was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe Myerscough, Gerald Myerscough, Marion Myerscough, Mary Ellen Constantin, Duane Myerscough, and Theresa Wisman; and his daughters-in-law, Karen Myerscough, and Trina Myerscough.
Merle attended Taylorville High School and served in the Army for one year. He retired in August 1991 as the Area Superintendent at CIPS (now Ameren), where he dedicated 46 years of service.
A devoted member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston, IL, Merle was also active in the community. He was a member of the Charleston Country Club, Charleston Elks Club, Moose Lodge #1388, and Charleston Rotary Club, and served as the former President of the Chamber of Commerce in Charleston.
Merle and Loraine were passionate NASCAR fans and treasured their trips to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Merle also enjoyed golfing, working on Volkswagen Beetles, and attending his grandchildren's events.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 921 Madison Ave., Charleston, IL, with Father Michael Berndt officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, IL.
