Maxine R. Suess' Obituary
MT. AIRY, NC - Maxine Roberta Suess, age 83 of Mt. Airy, North Carolina and a long-time Charleston resident, went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in the presence of her loving family. The Funeral Mass honoring and celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. today, Monday, December 23, 2013 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 921 Madison Avenue in Charleston with Father John Titus presiding. Inurnment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. There will be no public visitation. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the Mass, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Maxine was born on August 23, 1930 in Vandalia, Illinois a daughter of the late Marvin D. and Mae (Finney) Oary. She married Edwin E. Suess, Jr. on April 21, 1951 and they have shared 62 years of marriage and friendship. In addition to Ed she is survived by her loving and devoted children, Vickie Davis and husband Tony of Mt. Airy and David Suess of Paris, Illinois; two grandchildren, Lisa Tilley and husband Terry of Mt. Airy and Shawn Davis and special friend Katalina Eubanks of Belews Creek, NC; a great-grandson, Noah Davis; a brother, Donnie Oary of Tupelo, MS; and two sisters, Donna Bone and Shirley Washburn, both of Greenville, IL. In addition to her parents she was preceded by two sisters, Lois Weiss and Irma Weiss. Maxine was an employee of Moore Business Forms in Charleston before accepting a position with Food Services at Eastern Illinois University. She was a faithful member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston where she was actively involved with St. Cecelia Women's Circle. She was also a member of the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Paul McVey Post 1592.Ed and Maxine loved to travel and camp. There are many fond memories of camping trips out west with Lisa and Shawn who enjoyed spending the entire summer with their grandparents. Maxine enjoyed watching the birds which frequented her feeders - especially the hummingbirds. She also loved to needlepoint and crochet. The Christmas season was one of her favorite holidays and her kitchen would be filled with the aroma of freshly made candies and Christmas goodies to share. Maxine loved her family dearly and as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she created for them a home filled with warmth, laughter and love. These are memories of special times that will always be treasured.
