Mary Franklin's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Mary Dorothy Franklin of Dwight, IL and formerly of Charleston, was blessed with 100 years on this earth before entering her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 while at Heritage Health in Dwight. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, December 11, 2015 from Noon until 1:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral chapel with Pastor Gary Stephen officiating. Burial will follow in Van Voorhis Cemetery located in Douglas County, rural Hindsboro, IL. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Bushton Christian Church or to Kankakee Hospice. Gifts may be left during the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.Mary was born May 24, 1915 in Tuscola, IL to the late Charles and Myrta (Moody) Addis. She married Homer E. Franklin in 1932 and they celebrated 61 years of a wonderful marriage and friendship prior to his death in 1993. She is survived by a son, Donald Franklin and wife Mary of Morris, IL; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Lois Franklin of Charleston. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Rex Franklin and Homer Lyle Franklin; a daughter, Virginia Hazelwood; 5 brothers, Gifford, Russell Ben, Anson and Harold Addis; and a sister, Cleo Matthews. Mary was a longtime member of the Bushton Christian Church. For 30 years she was a familiar face at the Benedicts Department Store located on the north side of the Charleston Square where she worked as a sales clerk. She was a strong-willed individual and never shied away from a hard day's work. She enjoyed gardening and canning its fresh produce as well as crocheting. She often helped Homer with his farm work and as cemetery sextons for Union (Greasy Point) Cemetery. Mary loved her family dearly and most importantly she was a loving wife and mother who enriched and blessed the lives of her family.Click to view Mary's memorial video.
