Mary Ann Lenhart's Obituary
Mary Ann Lenhart, 91, of Charleston, IL, passed away peacefully at 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL. She was born on May 22, 1933, in Humboldt, IL, to Albert "Bert" and Evelyn Ann (Emmerich) Kastl.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Chris Childress (Mark) of Ashmore, IL, and Ann Marie Lenhart (fiancé Scott Maruna) of Savoy, IL; her grandchildren, Nicholas Childress (Kelsey) of Charleston, IL, and Kyle Childress of Ashmore, IL; her great-grandchildren, Parker and Camden Childress; her sister, M. Jean Goodwin of Mattoon, IL; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Richard Kastl, her sister Eleanor Rose Cox, her brother-in-law Jerry Cox, her niece Michelle Quast, her nephews Bart Kastl and Brett Kastl, and her sister-in-law Virginia Kastl.
Mary graduated from Mattoon High School in 1952. She retired after 26 years as a cashier at the Charleston Walmart, where she was known and cherished by many. Before her employment at Wal-Mart, she was a secretary for local plumbers Maurice DeMeyer and Mike Brown.
Mary was a faithful St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church member in Charleston, IL. Mary loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, walking, and spending time with her family and friends.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with Father Michael Berndt officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the church, located at 921 Madison Ave., Charleston, IL.
