Marvin Gerald ""Jerry"" Jennings' Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Marvin Gerald "Jerry" Jennings, age 83 of Charleston, departed this earth on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 while a patient at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. A Graveside Service honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston with Pastor Scott Sims officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Charleston VFW and Masonic Services by members and guests of Charleston Masonic Lodge #35 A.F. & A.M. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Charleston Food Pantry. Gifts may be left during the graveside service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Jerry was born November 11, 1931 in North Okaw Township, Coles County, Illinois, one of four children born to the late Walter and Lottie (Cannoy) Jennings. He married Sharon Robison, who was the love of his life. She preceded him in death on May 14th of 2000. He is survived by two devoted and loving children, Jerry Jennings and wife Christine of Giddings, TX and Becky Hall of Stewardson, IL; 7 grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Madeleine, Grace, Luke and Gabrielle Jennings and Christopher Gast; and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a great-grandchild. Jerry was a graduate of Charleston High School and proudly and honorably served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed for several area businesses including a local golf course, Biggs Dry Cleaners, the Nickel Plate Railroad, and USI in Tuscola, before accepting a position as an engineer with the Power Plant at Eastern Illinois University. Jerry was a Life Member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592, a member of the Illinois Fraternity of Masons and a former member of the Charleston Moose Lodge #1388. Jerry was an avid reader and his Charleston Carnegie Public Library membership card was always up-to-date. He was a man of integrity, always fair and honest and putting others needs before his own. His friends and his family were certainly his priority and he spent a great deal of time maintaining those relationships and spending quality time with those he loved. He was a wonderful husband and father and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He will forever be fondly and lovingly remembered by those who were near and dear to him.
