Marion M. Marquis' Obituary
Marion Marie Marquis, age 95, of Charleston, IL, formerly of Waukegan, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 6:16 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL. She was born May 7, 1928 in Linwood, NY, the daughter of Irving and Marie (Pennock) Walton. On August 11, 1951 she married George Slavens Marquis, Jr. in York, New York. He passed away on February 17, 2015 after 63 loving years of marriage.
Survivors include children, Roxane Netzler (Bruce) of Bloomington, IN, Susan Petrea (Chip) of Urbana, IL, and Gary Marquis (Barb) of Charleston, IL; grandchildren, Tiras Petrea (Veronica) of Conyers, GA, Zachary Petrea (Samantha) of Bloomington, IL, Kate Burch (Alex) of Bloomington, IN, Kelsey Angar (Pameer) of Wilmington, NC, Natasha DeHart (Ryan) of Lewisville, TX, and Micah Petrea (Vanessa) of Buda, TX; great-grandchildren, Austin, Addie, Bailey, Bethany, Caroline, Calvin, Torsten, Dane, Mila, and Leo; sister, Delphine Russell of Easton, MD; and sister-in-law, Shirley Walton of Linwood, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Charles Walton, Maurice Walton, Onley Walton, Earl Walton, Kenneth Walton, Leon Walton, and June Frew, and granddaughter, Bethany J. Petrea.
Marion graduated from York High School in York, NY, in 1946 and later attended Rochester Business Institute in New York. She devoted herself full-time to caring for her husband and children.
Marion was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and was a member of PEO in Mattoon, IL. Known for her culinary skills, Marion was an excellent cook and seamstress, famed for her cherry pie and crescent rolls. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, knitting, working on jigsaw puzzles and was an avid bridge player. Marion was always eager for a good adventure.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL with Pastor Dennis Strawn officiating. Burial will follow funeral service in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service at First Baptist Church, 1804 S. 9th Street, Mattoon, IL 61938.
