M. Katherine Quinn's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Margaret Katherine Quinn of Charleston was blessed with 102 years of life on this earth before passing away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. The Memorial Service, honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. immediately following the visitation with Pastors Scott Sims and Ray Finney officiating. Inurnment will be at a later time in the Edgar Cemetery in Paris, Illinois. It is requested that donations in her honor be made to Standing Stone. Gifts may be left at the visitation/service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Katherine was born October 12, 1916 in Paris, Illinois to the late Clarence and Nelle (Sawlaw) Soughers. She married Arnold E. Quinn in 1934 in Brazil, Indiana and he preceded her in death in 1982. She leaves as her legacy a dear and loving family which includes a daughter, Mary Jo Sims of rural Charleston; six grandchildren, Krista Berner and husband Clay, Scott Sims and wife Jacqie, Beth Kitchen and husband Steve, Kelly Dyer and husband Michael, Brian Quinn and wife Bobbi, and Melissa Wells and husband Steve; 14 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Hilah Nichols of Charleston. In addition to her husband she was preceded by a son, Fred C. Quinn, a sister and three brothers. Katherine worked as a CNA in Paris, Illinois and was a licensed beautician operating a shop in her home. She also assisted with the family business, Quinn Machine Shop located in Oliver, Illinois, and cherished her role as a homemaker. Katherine shared her love for square dancing and line dancing with other members of the Heartland Line Dancers. She looked forward each spring to mushroom hunting and kept quite busy in the summer months with her vegetable and flower gardening. She always had a project in the making through additional interests such as oil painting, sewing, quilting, crocheting and knitting. She was a fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and was always up for a good game of cards. Her family was near and dear to her heart and her day was made better if she got a call or visit from a grandchild, great-grandchild or great-great-grandchild. Katherine's family will treasure their many fond and happy memories of this wonderful woman who touched their hearts with love and affection. Memorial ServiceThe memorial service honoring and celebrating the life of Katherine Quinn was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ray Finney and Pastor Scott Sims officiating. Mary Jo Sims and Scott Sims shared some beautiful memories and stories. Pre-recorded musical selections included "Amazing Grace" by Elvis Presley, and "When We All Get To Heaven" by Randy Overstreet. Her great-grandson Keagan Sims and his wife Lauren performed "I Need Thee" on guitar and violin.
