M. Evelyn Carrell's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Martha Evelyn Carrell, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 26, 2016 while at Mattoon Rehab and Health Care Center. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Graveside Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Roselawn Cemetery with Revered Dr. Bob Swickard officiating. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter, Wounded Warriors or to Lincolnland Hospice. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Evelyn was born January 9, 1921 south of Charleston in Hutton Township, and was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Stone) Davis. She married Robert Carrell in May of 1942 and they celebrated 44 years of marriage prior to his death on November 12, 1986. She was also predeceased by a brother, Ken Davis and a sister, Kathryn Winter. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Anne Myers and husband David of Oswego, IL, David Carrell and wife Mary Ann of St. Charles, IL, and Melissa Boyd and husband Jerry of Charleston; four grandchildren, Sara Boyd, Justin Boyd, John Carrell and wife Brynn and Rebecca Carrell; and a great granddaughter, Isla Carrell. Evelyn was a Charleston High School graduate and furthered her education at Eastern Illinois State Teachers College where she received her bachelor's degree. She was employed as a substitute teacher and helped with the family farm in Hutton Township before accepting a position with the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid, serving as a caseworker for 25 years. Evelyn was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston. She was a woman whose interests included flower and vegetable gardening and quilting. She was a fabulous cook and will always be remembered for wonderfully prepared and delicious meals. She dearly loved her family and treasured her role as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and most recently as a great-grandmother. Her family has been truly blessed through her love and devotion gifted to them on a daily basis.Click to view Family Memorial Video.
