Lovetta Joyce Markley's Obituary
Lovetta Joyce Markley, age 96, formerly of Kankakee, Illinois passed away Friday, September 27, 2024 at Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, Illinois.
Lovetta was born on April 28, 1928, in Buffalo Heart, Illinois, to Joy and Beatrice (Beckett) Kline. She grew up in Southern Illinois and graduated from Farina High School in 1944. After moving to Vandalia, IL, she worked as a housekeeper and nanny for a local doctor. On September 5, 1946, she married Delbert Ivan Markley in Farina, IL. The couple then moved to Kankakee, IL, where they started their family.
As her children grew, Lovetta worked as a switchboard operator for an answering service and later at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee, where she eventually retired. She enjoyed quilting, reading, walking, and had a deep love for animals. Lovetta was a devoted member of Manteno Christian Church.
She is survived by four children, Teresa (Marty) Gibson of St. Ann, IL, Kathy (Bill) Reed of Charleston, IL, Kelly Rice of Big Rock, TN, and Jim (Debbie) Markley of Gurney, IL. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Joy (Beatrice) Kline, her husband Delbert Markley, her daughter, Linda G. Overacker, and two brothers, Jack Kline and Harold Kline.
Memorial services for Lovetta J. Markley will be held at a later date.
