Lonnie Winston Sowell's Obituary
Lonnie Winston Sowell, 84, of Charleston, Illinois passed away peacefully Sunday, August 28, 2022 at his home. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Memorials in his honor may be made to the family and left at the visitation or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
Lonnie was born January 14, 1938, in Henderson, Tennessee, the son of Ben Wright and Lou Ella (Floyd) Sowell. He married Gayle Elaine Slifer on September 1, 1967, in St. Joseph, MI. He is survived by his wife; children, Charlotte Chappell (Skeets) of Allegain, MI, Lonnie W. Sowell Jr. of Casey, IL, Donna (Mike) Barnes of Greenup, IL, and Julie Christine Koch (Darin) of Charleston, IL; 27grandchildren, Jeremy Winkler (Christina Arthur), Nicholas Cox (Ashley Eubank), Skyler Cox (Jonathan Nave), Cameron Sowell (Katie Christian), Zachary Winkler, Michael Tio, Phillip Tio, Brandon (Sarah) Tio, Krystal Tio, Robert Chappell, Stormie (Joey) Rader, Kricket Sowell, and Wesley Sowell; and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three children, Henry Sowell, Kathy Prosser, and Lisa Bacon.
Lonnie was a member at the Assembly of God Church in Mattoon, IL. He had worked for Servicemaster for 16 years before spending his retirement years painting. With his hard-working attitude, green thumb, and love for flowers, Lonnie could get anything to grow. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. His family was his world, and he adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is going to be dearly missed.
