Lila L. Carey's Obituary
ASHMORE, IL - Lila Lee Carey, age 77 of Ashmore, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 in the comfort of her home. There will be no public visitation or service. It is requested that donations in her honor be made to the Ashmore Volunteer Fire Department, Charleston Fire and Rescue or the Alzheimer's Association. Gifts may be mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Lila was born June 18, 1941 in Arcola, Illinois, a daughter of the late Earl and Louise (Ghere) Bright. She married Max Carey on September 28, 1958. Left to cherish her memory is Max, her husband of sixty years; four children, Mark Carey and wife Vivian of Florida, Bobbi Maulding and husband Brian of Cooks Mills, Illinois, Debi Coartney of Ashmore, and Kathy Farrell of Charleston; twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Mary McGregor and husband Myron of Oakland, Illinois, Donna Thornton of Arcola, Illinois, Louise Johnston and husband Vernon of Arthur, Illinois; a brother, Harry Bright and wife Rita of Mt. Zion, Illinois and a brother-in-law, John Baker of Camargo, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews. Lila was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Baker; a son-in-law, Jerry Coartney; a daughter-in-law, Rosa Carey; and a brother-in-law, Craig Thornton. Lila devoted her life to being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She enjoyed crafting projects, quilting, crocheting and adding to her shoe figurine collection. She always looked forward to the many motorcycle rides with Max and their cycling friends. Lila will be dearly missed by her loving family and dear friends.
