Laura Florine Duncan's Obituary
MATTOON, IL - Laura Florine Duncan, age 86 of Mattoon and formerly of Indianapolis, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday (January 8) from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Funeral Chapel with Reverend Billy Hancock officiating. Interment will follow in the Janesville Cemetery, rural Janesville, Illinois. It is requested that memorial gifts in her honor be made to the Bradbury Free Methodist Church. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Florine, as she was affectionately known to many, was born on January 10, 1925 in Lerna, Illinois to the late Victor and Geneva (Barger) Thompson. She married Marshall Garriott and following his death she married Clyde Williams. Following Clyde's death she married Edward Duncan who also preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, Rex Thompson of Charleston and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by two sisters, Luella Mae Gibbons and Clara Jean Hallett; and a brother, Joe Thompson. Florine grew up in the Lerna and Janesville areas and attended the Bradbury Free Methodist Church. Most of her adult life was spent in Indianapolis where she was employed for more than thirty years with the Social Security Department. Florine enjoyed cooking but spending time with her family is what provided life's greatest joys.Click to view Florine's memorial video.
