Larry K. Galloway's Obituary
GREENUP, IL - Larry K. Galloway, age 69 of rural Greenup and formerly of Charleston, passed away peacefully in his favorite recliner on Thursday, September 1, 2016 while at his Liberty House residence at the Illiana VA in Danville, IL. There will be no public visitation and a Graveside Service honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the St. Omer Cemetery north of Ashmore, IL with Pastor Rick Emrich officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the combined honor guards of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and Charleston American Legion Post 93 as well as the Illinois Army National Guard Honor Detachment. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Illiana VA in Danville. Gifts may be left at the graveside services, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Larry was born November 4, 1946 in Charleston, IL a son of Gordon and Georgia (Carlen) Galloway. He married Patty Waddelow on April 3, 1970 and they have shared 46 years of marriage and friendship along with a love for a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner which holds a multitude of memories. In addition to his devoted wife Patty, he is survived by his mother, Georgia Galloway of Greenup, IL; 3 daughters, Jini Galloway, Jodi Wingler and husband Jason and Laura Galloway, all of Greenup; 3 grandchildren, Cameron, Maci and Lizi Wingler; a sister, Beth (Dave) Padier of Texas; a brother, Anthony Galloway of Indiana; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a sister, Bonnie Toothman. Larry was a 1965 graduate of Charleston High School. He then faithfully and honorably served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was an employee of Moore Business Forms in Charleston for more than 20 years. After its closing he was employed by Blaw Knox and EIU before accepting a position with the University of Illinois in their Food Services Department. Larry attended Nebo Baptist Church with his family. He was a member of the Coles County Farm Bureau and a Life Member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592. Larry never knew the meaning of the word "stranger" . He could, and usually would, strike up a conversation with anyone and you would think he had known them all his life. He was such a gifted mechanic and could fix anything with an engine. His hobbies of stamp, coin and hat collecting took a back seat to his love for the outdoors. He truly enjoyed being in the woods and on the river. Larry was also an avid photographer and shared his love for photography with his daughter, Jodi who now has her own studio. Larry never felt a calling to go into ministry but his love for God was exemplified through the way he lived his life and through the beautiful prayers he offered up for others. His tremendous love and immense devotion for his family was apparent through his determination to always make certain that they were well provided for. Larry will always be loved, admired and respected for his unwavering love for God, for his country and for his family.
