Kenneth D. Ramsey's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Kenneth Dean Ramsey, age 60 of Charleston, was at home and in the comforting presence of his loving family when he passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016, at the funeral chapel with Reverend Dr. Bob Swickard officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in Ken's honor be made to the American Cancer Society. Gifts may be left during the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Ken was born September 2, 1955 in Charleston, one of six children born to Charles and Marjorie (Wegmet) Ramsey. He married his high school sweetheart, Elise Rennels, on July 2, 1977 in Charleston. He is survived by Elise, his loving and devoted wife of 38 years; two children, Kayla Wehnes and husband Matt of Morton, IL and Kurt Ramsey and wife Kristina of Glenn Allen, VA; two grandchildren, Megan and Logan Wehnes; his parents, Dr. Charles and Marjorie Ramsey of Wilmore, KY; three sisters, Laurel (Jon) Kniskern of Marquette, MI, Joyce (Ward Freeman) Ramsey of Yipsilanti, MI, and Martha (Mike) Wanous of Huntington, IN; two brothers, Charles "Chuck" Ramsey of Scottsdale, AZ and Joe (Shirley) Ramsey of Lexington, KY; and nieces and nephews. Ken was a 1973 graduate of Charleston High School and an Eastern Illinois University graduate. Ken served his community and fellow citizens as an officer with the Charleston Police Department, retiring with the rank of Sergeant. He then worked in sales and most recently was employed with Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center delivering for their Peace Meal Program. Ken's memberships included Wesley United Methodist Church, the Charleston Exchange Club, and Sigma Pi Fraternity. He was formerly an active member of the Charleston Lions Club and served on the Township Board of Trustees from 1993-2001. As a vital and active member of the Sports Complex Fund Raising Committee, Ken was instrumental in assisting with raising the necessary funds for the new Charleston Trojan Football Field and Sports Complex. Ken's family was undoubtedly his number one priority and he will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, who cherished the many precious and memorable times shared with those who were near and dear to his heart.Click to view Ken's memorial video.
