Kenneth ""Pete"" Ogden's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Kenneth M. "Pete" Ogden, age 93 of Charleston, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 while at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon. Graveside Services for family and friends to honor and celebrate his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Mound Cemetery in Charleston. Military Rites will be conducted by the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and the Charleston American Legion Post 93 combined honor guards. In lieu of flowers, thoughtful donations in his honor may be made to the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 or a charity of the donor's preference. Gifts may be mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Pete was born October 29, 1923 in Newman, IL to the late Willis and Leona (Huffman) Ogden. Pete was one of 18 children born to Willis Ogden. He married Barbara Story, his first wife, and had two daughters, Debby Ogden Epperson (Bill) of Cape Coral, Florida and B. Ann Ogden Tuggle Tarter of Oakwood, Illinois. In October of 1964, Pete married his second wife, Beverly A. Hudson, who survives and resides at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, Illinois. Beverly's daughter, Pete's stepdaughter, Jackie Creager Edwards, also resides in Mattoon. Pete's daughters and stepdaughter provided him with 7 grandchildren; Teresa Tuggle Campbell of Madison, AL, Darren Tuggle of Chicago, Dena Hallowell of Marion, AR, Gina Giberson (deceased), Lance Tucker of San Jose, CA, Nikki Tarter Baker of Danville, IL and Ashley Epperson of Charleston. He also has several great-grandchildren, Alex Loy, Maddie Wilkerson, Lauren Earle, Wyatt Earle, Makenzie Baker, Nathan Baker, Dylanee Baker and Quentin Tuggle. He was predeceased by his siblings. Pete retired from Sturdi-Built in Charleston as a salesman. He was an avid golfer and loved to walk and to dance - he was still dancing very nearly until the end of his days! Pete's goal was to always have fun and create an atmosphere in which others would enjoy life being in his presence. Pete was extremely patriotic and honorably served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. When living in Tuscola, he was the Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club. After moving to Charleston he became a member of the Charleston Moose Lodge #1388 and a life member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 where he served as a Post Commander as well as on the honor guard detail for many veteran funeral services.
